San Luis Potosí is a city in the central part of Mexico. It is the largest city and state capital of San Luis Potosí State. Often called simply as SLP or San Luis, the city covers 385 sq km(148.6 sq mi) and has a population of 686,000 people (2011 estimate) with the 10th largest metropolitan area in Mexico.
San Luis Potosí is located at an elevation of 1,850 m (6,070 ft) above sea level. It was founded in 1592 due to the discovery of rich silver and gold ore in the area, which led to the opening of mines there.
San Luis Potosí was named after King Louis IX of France (1214-1270), who was regarded as San Luis Rey de Francia in Mexico, and serves as the patron saint of the city. The name Potosí came about to associate it with the rich mines of Potosí, Bolivia, established forty years earlier.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
