Villeta is a city in the Central department of Paraguay. It is an industrial center and river port on the Paraguay River. The city covers 888 sq km (342.9 sq mi) and has a population of 36,000 people (2011 estimate).
Villeta was founded in 1714 by Juan Gregorio Bazán de Pedraza. it was originally named San Felipe de Borbón del Valle del Bastán, and was only later renamed Villeta. The main activity in the city is related to the river transport and navigation.
Villeta is at the heart of the orange-growing region of Paraguay. Oranges form a bulk of the export of the city, with other products being cement, agricultural chemicals and electric cables among them.
