Chuy is a city in Uruguay on the border with Brazil. It is located in the Rocha department, in the far eastern part of the country. Chuy has a population of 10,400 people (2011 estimate) and is a sister city of Chui across the border in Brazil.
The name Chuy or Chui is said to have been derived from the Tupí Guaraní language for a yellow-breasted native bird found the the marshes there. The city dates back to the Treaty of Madrid in 1750, which settle boundaries between Spanish and Portuguese territories, and creating border post in the area.
From the border a settlement was recognized in 1888. When Uruguay and Brazil were created, they inherit the differences passed on by Spain and Portugal. Chuy was recognized as a village in 1938. In 1961 it was uygrade to town, and in 1981, it was given city status.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
