Ann Arbor is a city in southeastern Michigan, 35 miles from the border of Ohio. It covers 27.7 sq mi (71.7 sq km) and has a population of 114,000 people (2011 estimate) within a metropolitan area of some 345,000 people.

The city of Ann Arbor was founded in 1824 by land speculators John Allen and Elisha Rumsey. According to various accounts, the city was named Ann after the the spouses of both Allen and Rumsey, who had the same first name. The word Arbor is believed to come from the burr oak trees that are found in the area.

Ann Arbor was incorporated as a village in 1833. In 1837 the University of Michigan was founded there, and since then, the history of both the city and the university seem to go hand-in-hand. In 1839, the first railroad to Ann Arbor was built. Following that, a railway line connecting it with Toledo was established in 1878, cementing the town's position as a transportation hub.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
