Barrow is a small town of some 4,700 inhabitants (2011 estimate) in North Slope Borough, Alaska. It is the northernmost city in the United States, and one of the northernmost in the world.
The city of Barrow was named after English statesman Sir John Barrow (1764-1848) by English naval officer and geographer Frederick William Beechey (1796-1856) in 1825. It is the traditional home of the Inupiat Eskimo people, who have been living there for the past one thousand years.
Barrow is located 320 miles (515km) north of the Arctic Circle. As such, it experiences polar climate. However it is moderated by the Arctic Ocean which is on three sides and the flat tundra that stretches for 200 miles to the south. Nevertheless it still experiences one of the lowest temperatures of any town in Alaska, with average summer temperature of 34°F to 46°F in July, and -22°F to -10°F in February.

The usual way to reach Barrow is by air. There are flights from Fairbanks and Anchorage to the Wiley-Post Will Rogers Memorial Airport in Barrow by Alaska Airlines.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
