Boise is located at an elevation of 2,704 ft (824 m) and experiences a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons. Its summers are very hot and dry, with temperature often exceeding 100°F (38°C) while its winters are cold, with the low temperature dropping to 0°F (-18°C).
The history of Boise goes back to the 1830's, when the Hudson's Bay Company built the Fort Boise near the confluence of the Boise River with the Snake River. The area however has already been known as Boise by then. The fort was abandoned in the 1850's, but a new site was selected for it later, in the 1863, to offer protection for people moving on the Oregon Trail. This led to the founding of a few mining settlements including Boise Basin, which became Idaho City, and Owyhee, which became Silver City. The new Fort Boise also grew and was incorporated as the city of Boise in 1864.
Today Boise has the largest ethnic Basque community outside of the Basque Country in Spain. The community has its own museum and cultural center in the city.

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
