Booker T. Washington National Monument is a national monument in Franklin County, Virginia. It preserves the 207-acre tobacco farm belonging to James Burroughs. The national monument was named after Booker T. Washington, a prominent African American who was born in slavery on the farm on 5 April, 1856.
Washington is remembered as an orator, author and statesman. He raised funds for the education of both the blacks and the whites. The Booker T. Washington National Monument provides interpretation of Washington's life and achievements. Visitors will get a glimpse into slavery in the 1850's.

The Booker T. Washington National Monument is located near Roanoke. The national monument is open seven days a week, all year round, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year Day, and may also be closed during severe weather. There is no admission fee.
