Boulder is a small city in Colorado. The county seat of Boulder County, it covers 25.4 sq mi (65.7 sq km) and has a population slightly exceeding 100,000 (2011 estimate). This makes it the 11th most populous city in Colorado. Boulder is 20 miles to the northwest of Denver. It observes the Mountain Standard Time, which is seven hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-7), and six hours behind during Daylight Saving Time in summer.
The city of Boulder is located where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains. To the west of the city are rock formations known as the Flatirons, popularly recognized as the symbol of Boulder. The city experiences a semi-arid climate. Summers in Boulder are hot and dry. The average high temperature reaches 87.2°F (30.67°C). Winters here are cold, with average low temperatures reaching 0°F (-18°C). You can expect some snowfall from November to April.

With 36,000 acres of recreational open space, Boulder is a popular outdoor destination. The city has numeous world class hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty. Thus they appeal to visitors of various experience level. Apart from hiking, Boulder also has excellent rock climbing sites, particularly in nearby Eldorado Canyon and at the Flatirons.
The Boulder area was inhabited by the Southern Arapaho tribe of Native Americans right up to the mid 19th century. The first European to arrive here were gold prospectors in 1858. At that time, Boulder was part of Nebraska Territory. It was founded on 10 February, 1859.

The economy of Boulder was supported by mining, particularly of gold, silver and coal, until the mid 20th century. As mining declined in its importance, the city diversified into tourism and non-polluting industries, such as being the site of the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Among the companies having a facility in Boulder today include major corporations such as IBM, Microsoft and Cisco Systems.
Visiting Boulder, Colorado
The Denver International Airport is the nearest major airport to Boulder. From the airport, you can take the AB Bus to Boulder. The mass transit of Boulder comprises public buses managed by RTD (Regional Transportation District), which also manages the buses in Denver.
