East Greenwich is the county seat of Kent County in central Rhode Island. It covers 16.71 sq mi (43.3 sq mi) and has a population of 13,000 people (2011 estimate). It is renowned for being the birthplace of the navy. The city of East Greenwich dates back to 1677. As would be expected, it was named after the town of Greenwich (from 2012 the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London), England. The town was renamed to Dedford in 1686, but was again called Greenwich in 1689. Then in 1641 it was split into East Greenwich and West Greenwich. Both are still in existence today.

East Greenwich has the wealthiest municipality in Rhode Island. The city has a popular waterfront lined with shops, restaurants and entertainment outlets.

Visiting East Greenwich

Interstate 95 connects East Greenwich with the rest of Rhode Island and the rest of the country at large. To reach East Greenwich, turn off the I-95 at either Exit 7 or Exit 8 heading east.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
