El Dorado is a small city in Union County, on the southern border of Arkansas. It covers 42.2 sq km (16.4 sq mi) and has a population of 19,000 (2011 estimate). The city about 100 mi (160 km ) from Little Rock. It observes the Central Standard Time, which is six hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-6), and five hours behind during Daylight Saving Time in summer. The phone area code here is 870.
El Dorado is often called "Arkansas's Original Boomtown", due to the rapid expansion following the oil boom of the 1920's. Today El Dorado is home to a number of Fortune 500 companies including Murphy Oil Corporation and Lion Oil Refinery.

El Dorado experiences a humid subtropical climate. The hottest months are July and August, when the daytime temperature often reach 92°F (33.3°C) or more. Coldest month is January, when the temperature drops to 31°F (-0.6°C). Rain is heaviest in May, which receives 5.3 in (135 mm) of precipitation.

There aren't any Interstate highways connected to El Dorado. However, it is linked to the rest of the country by a number of US Highways, including US Highway 63, US Highway 82 and US Highway 167.
