Guadalupe Mountains National Park is a national park in the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas. It was established on 30 September, 1972, and is within the same range as Carlsbad Caverns National Park.

Covering 86,416 acres (34,971 ha), Guadalupe Mountains National Park includes the 8,749-ft (2,667-m) Guadalupe Peak, the tallest mountain in Texas. The peak is part of a mountain range that extends from Texas into New Mexico.

Within Guadalupe National Park is El Capitan, a 8,085-ft (2,464-m) peak that is also the 8th tallest mountain in Texas, and a landmark in the days of old. The Butterfield Overland Mail stagecoach line passes near El Capitan. The ruins of this line is still visible near the Pine Springs Visitor Center.

Visitors to this national park can enjoy the landscape on its many trails suitable for hiking and even horseback riding. There is a variety of terrain ranging from salt flats in the western part of the park, to cresote desert, with grassland and a variety of pines and junipers.

Guadalupe National Park also exhibits evidence of human habitation with archaeological finds showing people lived there over 10,000 years ago. The earliest humans in the area were hunter-gatherers who left baskets, pottery and rock art.

Visiting Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas

Located in West Texas with the border to New Mexico in the north, Guadalupe Mountains is reached on US Highway 62 / 180. It is about 110 miles east of El Paso and 56 miles southwest of Carlsbad, New Mexico.

The Headquarters Visitor Center is at Pine Springs on US Highway 62/180. It is open daily from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm MDT in summer from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, and from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm MST the rest of the year, closed on Christmas Day. Entrance fee to the park is $5.00 per person aged 16 and above.
