Hawaii is an archipelago in the central Pacific Ocean. It comprises eight main islands, namely Ni'ihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kaho'olawe, Maui and Hawaii. The island of Hawaii is also called the Big Island, to avoid confusing it with the state, which carries the same name. It is the biggest but not the most populous island in the group.

Evidence of human habitation in Hawaii stretches back to as early as 300 BC. The earliest settlers were probably Polynesians from the Marquesas. They were followed by later waves of immigration by Polynesians from other parts of the Pacific.
British explorer Captain James Cook arrived in Hawaii in 1778. It was also in Hawaii in 1779 that Cook was killed when he attempted to abduct the King of the Big Island, Kalani'opu'u. Contact with Europeans brought along diseases that the native Hawaiians had no resistance over, and these decimated the population.

Hawaii was a sovereign kingdom from 1810 to 1893, when the monarchy was overthrown by resident American (and some European) businessmen. It became an independent republic from 1894 until 1898, when it was annexed as a territory of the United States, before gaining statehood in 1959.
Hawaii experiences tropical climate. Temperature is fairly constant throughout the year, although there are variations between the summer months, when average temperature reaches the upper 80°F (around 31°C) and winter months, when it drops to the mid 60°F (18°C). The northern and eastern parts of the Hawaiian island receive more rain with Mount Wai-ale-ale in Kaua'i receiving the second highest average annual rainfall on earth, a hefty 460 inches (11.7 meters). In Hawaii, May to October is the dry season while October to April is the wet season.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
