Hood River is a port town in northern Oregon, on the bank of the Columbia River, across from Washington State. It covers 2.9 sq mi (7.5 sq km) and has a population of around 6,000 people (2011 estimate).

Hood River traces its history to the settlement that was established there in the mid-19th century. The post office was erected in the village in 1858. Then the settlement was incorporated as a town in 1895.
Traditionally a farming community, Hood River has in the past decade developed itself as a tourist destination as well as center for high-tech industries. Hood River draws visitors to its many sports recreation facilities, which include skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and windsurfing, among others. The town is also home to an aerospace enginerring industry.
