Jefferson City, located in the heart of Missouri, is the capital of the state of Missouri, USA. It also serves as the county seat of Cole County, through it spreads across both Cole and Callaway counties. Covering 28.3 sq mi (73.2 sq km), it has a population of 43,000 people (2011 estimate).

Jefferson City was named after Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States. It is located on the southern side of the Missouri River. The city was chosen to replace St Louis at the state capital in 1821. The city was originally planned to be called Missouriopolis, but later settled on Jefferson City.

Many of the early European settlers in and around Jefferson City were ethnic Germans. They established vineyards along the Missouri River, replicating the viticulture along the Rhine, leading to the region being known as the Missouri Rhineland.

I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
