Lakewood is the fifth biggest city in Colorado. It covers 42.5 sq mi and has a population of 142,000 (2011 estimate). Located in Jefferson County to the west of Denver, it is part of the Denver metropolitan area.

Although the Lakewood area can trace its development back to 1889, it was only incorporated in 1969. The city is mainly supported by employment from the Denver Federal Center.

Lakewood experiences a semi-arid climate. The warmest month is July, when the average temperature reaches 85.8°F (29.9°C). Coldest month is January, when the temperature drops to 12.7°F ( -10.7°C). There is not much rainfall in this city. In fact the total precipitation for the whole year is only around 17.6 in (433 mm) with the wettest months being May and June.

You can reach Lakewood from downtown Denver by taking US Highway 6 (6th Ave Freeway).
