Lassen Volcanic National Park is a national park protecting Lassen Peak, the largest plug dome volcano in the world. Located in Califormia, national park also features boiling mud pots, churning hot springs and stinking fumaroles.

The uniqueness of Lassen Volcanic National Park is that it is one of the few sites in the world where visitors can observe all four different types of volcano, namely the plug dome, shield, cinder cone and strato.

Lassen Volcanic National Park was originally designated as the Cinder Cone National Monument and the Lassen Peak National Monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907. These two national monuments were merged to form the national park on 9 August, 1916. The park covers 106,000 acres (42,900 ha) in northeastern California.

There are five different entrances to this national park. The Main Park Road crosses the park from north to south. Branch roads take you to sights in the park such as Butte Lake, Juniper Lake and Warner Valley.

From Redding, take California Highway 44 heading east. From Red Bluff, take Highway 36 hearing northeast, followed by Highway 89. While the national park is open the whole year round, its access roads may be closed from fall through late spring due to snow. The Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center is open all year round except on 24 Nov, 24 Dec and 25 Dec. Opening hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm from 28 May to 10 Oct, and 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for the rest of the year. Entrance fees for private cars are $10 per vehicle inclusive driver and passengers. Visitors on foot, bicycle or motorcycle pay $5 per person.
