Lawton experiences a dry subtropical climate with often very hot and dry summers, and mild to cold winters. July is the hottest month, when temperatures may reach 95.7°F (35.39°C). In January, the coldest month, temperature drops to 26.4°F (-3.11°C). May is the wettest month in Lawton, receiving 5.08 in (129 mm) of rainfall.

The area of present-day Lawton has been inhabited for thousands of years, as archaeological evidence show various prehistoric cultures in the area. The modern history of Lawton can be traced to the founding of Fort Sill in 1869.

Although the area was Indian Territory, legal maneuvering on the part of the United States eventually gave the federal government control of over 2 million acres of surplus Indian land. From this land, the counties of Kiowa, Caddo and Comanche were created, and the town of Lawton established in 1901, via an auction of town lots to white settlers.

Lawton saw rapid growth particularly in the post Baby Boomer decades, in the late 1940s and 50s. In the ensuing decades, its population has grown and is expected to continue growing for a couple more decades.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
