Lewes is a small town in Sussex County, Delaware. Covering 4.3 sq mi (11.1 sq km), it has a population of 2,700 (2011 estimate) on the central coast of the state. Lewes is in the Eastern Standard Time zone, which is 5 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC-5/-4).
The history of Lewes goes back to 1631, when it was founded as a trading post by Dutch settlers. It was originally named Zwaanendael, meaning "swan valley". With a year of its establishment, the original settlement was destroyed by local Native Americans.
Today Lewes is a local tourist destination. Most of the visitors come from major cities in the area such as Washington DC. It is regarded as an ocean resort. It is adjacent to the Cape Henlopen State Park. Other sights of interest in town includes the Zwaanendael Museum, which provides a glimpse into local history, and the Lewes and Rehoboth Canal.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
