Lincoln Memorial is a famous memorial in Washington DC. It is built in the form of a Greek Doric temple. The memorial is located on the Las Vegas Strip. Within the memorial is a colossal statue of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. The president is shown in a seated position. Two of his most famous speeches are inscribed on the memorial as well, namely
The Gettysburg Address and the
Second Inaugural Address.
The Lincoln Memorial is regarded as a totally original example of neoclassical architecture. It marks the terminus of the National Mall, which forms the main core of Washington, DC. Although a memorial has been proposed for that spot as early as the time of Lincoln's birth, the idea remained dormant until the turn of the 20th century. The project went into full swing around 1913.
