Mississippi is a state in the Southern region of the United States. It covers an area of 48,430 sq mi (125,443 sq km), measuring roughly 170 miles across and 340 miles from north to south. The state has a population of 2.9 million people. Its capital and largest city is Jackson.

Mississippi is border by Tennessee to the north, Alabama to the east, Louisiana to the southwest and Arkansas to the northwest.

Travel to and within Mississippi

By Plane
You can fly to Mississippi arriving at the Jackson-Evers International Airport (JAN) or the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT).

By Road
If you intend to explore Mississippi extensively, going by car would be the most practical option. Interstate 55 highway cuts through the state from north to south, connecting Memphis in Tennessee with New Orleans in Louisiana. I-20 runs from east to west. Both highways meet in Jackson.
