Montgomery is the second biggest city within the fourth most populous metropolitan area in Alabama. Located in Montgomery County, the city has a population of 202,000 people and a metropolitan population of 350,000.

Founded in 1819, Montgomery is located along the Alabama River. It served briefly as the first capital of the Confederate States of America until the capital was relocated to Richmond, Virginia.

Today Montgomery is home to the Maxwell Air Force Base, giving the city a large military presence.

The most practical way to travel to Montgomery is to drive. You can get there on interstate highway I-85 from Atlanta, Georgia, and I-65 from Birmingham.

By Plane
Montgomery Airport is just a small domestic airport with limited connections. You should consider flying to Atlanta or Birmingham and then taking land transport from there.
