Mystic Seaport, also called the Museum of American and the Sea, is the biggest maritime museum in the United States. It is located in the village of Mystic in Connecticut.
The Mystic Seaport was established as the Marine Historical Association in 1929. It cemented its postion as a major maritime museum when it purchased the
Charles W. Morgan, the only surviving wooden sailing whaler, in 1941. Since then, the museum has continued to grow its collection of vessels.

Also within the Mystic Seaport is the Preservation Shipyard. This is where visitors can observe how traditional tools and techniques are used to restore and preserve the vessels of the museum. It was here that the ship
Amistad was recreated.
