Nebraska City is a small city and county seat of Otoe County in eastern Nebraska, on the western bank of the Missouri River from Iowa. The city covers 4.4 sq mi (11.5 sq km) and has a population of around 7,200 people (2011 estimate).
The history of Nebraska City goes back to 1804, when the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through the area. In 1848 the US Army established Old Fort Kearny there (it was an earlier incarnation of the fort, before it was relocated to central Nebraska, where the town of Kearney was later established).
Nebraska City dates to around 1850, after the Old Fort Kearny site was vacated. One John Boulware established a ferry-boat business across the Missouri River there, and a settlement developed over time. It was incorporated in 1855, along with Kearney. The city lobbied hard to be made the capital of Nebraska, but the title went to Omaha (and eventually to Lincoln).

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
