New Haven is a city in Connecticut, USA. The city has a population of 130,000 (2011 estimate) within the Greater New Haven metropolitan area, which has about 600,000 inhabitants. It is the second largest municipality in Connecticut and the sixth largest in New England.

The layout of the original New Haven settlement, established in 1638, comprises a grid of four streed by four streets, creating a nine-block plan that is recognized by the American Institute of Certified Planners as a National Historic Planning Landmark for being one of the first pre-planned settlements. The central block in the plan is a 16-acres (6 ha) public park, known as the New Haven Green. Located right at the heart of Downtown New Haven, it is also a National Historic Landmark.

New Haven is celebrated as the home of Yale University, an Ivy League institution and one of the best universities in the United States. There are three main rivers flowing through the city, namely the West River, Mill River and Quinnipiac River. The city experiences a Humid continental climate. Its winters are cold and humid, with heavy snow, while its summers are only moderately hot, accompanied by frequent thunderstorms.
