Diamond District, also known as Diamond Row, is the section of West 47th Street, between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue (also known as Avenue of the Americas), in Midtown Manhattan, New York City.
Diamond District is within walking distance from Rockefeller Center, Radio Music Hall and St Patrick's Cathedral. It got its name from the many stores that sells jewellery. Shop windows display the glittering jewellery while upstairs, transactions worth millions constantly change hands.

The Diamond District was created in the 1930's, with most of the cutter cutters being Jews who fled to America from Antwerp and Amsterdam following Nazi prosecution. It is common to see Hasidic Jews here, with their black hats, beards and long earlocks.
Most of the trades done at the Diamond Districts are wholesale. Nevertheless retail customers are welcome. However know your diamond if you intend to shop here.
How to reach the Diamond District
Take the B, D, F or V train to the 47th-50th Streets/Rockefeller Center subway station. Walk south along Sixth Avenue until intersection with West 47th Street. Turn left into West 47th Street and you're in Diamond District.
Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
