Orange County is a county in Southern California. With an estimated population of just over 3 million people (2011 estimate), Orange County is the third most populous county in California and the sixth most populous in the country. Yet it is also one of the smallest, covering just 947.98 sq mi (2,455.3 sq km) of which bodies of water occupy 158.57 sq mi (410.7 sq km).

As home to major tourist attractions such as Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, Orange County is renowned for its affluent yet conservative residents. And yet, in 1994, it was also the most populous county to go bankrupt, resulting in its treasurer being convicted of felony charges over the matter.

There are thirty-four incorporated cities in Orange County. Santa Ana is the county seat while Anaheim is its main tourist destination. Orange County was established on 11 March, 1889. It got its name from the citrus plantations in the area. The growing of fruit trees, including avocados and boysenberry, began to decline after the Second World War, and the county turned to other forms of economic activity. Its economy received a big boost when Disneyland opened in Anaheim in 1955.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
