Orem is the 6th largest city in Utah. It is located in Utah County, to the southeast of Salt Lake City. The city is on the northeastern shore of Utah Lake, about 4,774 ft (1,455 m) above sea level. It covers 18.3 sq mi (47.4 sq km) and has a population of 88,000 people (2011 estimate).

The land around Orem was first settled by Europeans in 1877. It has been given different names through its history including Sharon and Provo Beach. Eventually it was incorporated in 1919 and named after Walter C. Orem, who was the president of the local railway company, the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad.

Take Interstate 15 south from Salt Lake City and turn off at Exit 272.
