Salem is a coastal town in the state of Massachusetts, USA. It has a population of over 40,000 people. The town was an important seaport in the early days of American history. The Salem Maritime National Historic Site is the first National Historic Site to be designated by Congress.

The town of Salem is perhaps best known for the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Today the people celebrate that part of their history with many witch-theme icons, such as spotting the witch logo, naming their football team The Witches, and so on. Even the television series Bewitched is celebrated by having a bronze statue of Samantha Stephens, the character in the show played by Elizabeth Montgomery.
