St Petersburg is a popular tourist and retirement destination in Florida. This is due in part to it receiving sunshine for 360 days per year, making it attractive to people from colder cities such as New York City or Chicago.

St Petersburg was founded by John C. Williams and Peter Demens in 1888. It was named after Saint Petersburg in Russia, where Demens spent half of his youth. Demens is said to have won a coin flip to name the city, and in return Williams got to name the hotel built there, which he named the Detroit Hotel, after his hometown.

St Petersburg became a popular retirement destinations since the 1970's, causing its population to rapidly grow, reaching some 239,000 by 1980. In the past two decades the population growth has levelled out.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
