Texarkana was founded in 1873. Its name is a portmanteau of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. There are different accounts as to how the city got its name. In any case, the city celebrates its position on the border between Texas and Arkansas by having a major road running along the border, known as the State Line Avenue.
