Utah is a state in the Western region of the United States. It covers an area of 84,889 sq mi (219,887 sq km), and measures 270 miles (435 km) from east to west and 350 miles (565 km) from north to south. It is the 13th biggest of the 50 states in the country.

Utah is bordered by Idaho to the north, Wyoming to the northeast, Colorado to the east, touches New Mexico at Four Corners to the southeast, Arizona to the south, and Nevada to the west. Its highest point is Kings Peak, at 13,528 ft (4,126 m).

Utah has a population of 2.8 million people, ranking it 34th in terms of population size. Before its admission to Union on 4 January, 1896 - the 45th state to join the U.S. - it was known as Utah Territory.

Utah is within the Mountain time zone (-7/-6 GMT). Its abbreviation is UT.

Travel to and around Utah

By Plane
The main airport serving Utah is the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), which serves as the westernmost hub for Delta Air Lines. Other airports in Utah includes the Cedar City Airport (CDC), St. George (SGU) and Canyonlands Fields (CNY).

By Road
Utah is best explored by road. I-15 is the interstate highway that cuts across Utah from north to south, exiting at St. George in the southwest. I-80 passes through Salt Lake City from east to west while I-70 starts in Utah and heads east into Colorado.
