Yucca House National Monument is a protected archaeological site of Ancestral Puebloan ruins in Montezuma County, Colorado. Covering 33.97 acres (0.14 sq km), this relatively small national monument was established by President Woodrow Wilson on 19 December, 1919. The site was created to preserve the ruins for future investigation, not so much for its public appeal. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 15 October, 1966.

Yucca House National Monument contains remains of many Anasazi villages that once occupied the Montezuma Valley. As much of the site remains unexcavated, the ruins here are insignificant compared to those in other national monuments, and are probably of greater interest to serious archaeology enthusiasts than casual visitors.

Visiting Yucca House National Monument, Colorado

From Interstate 70, turn off at Exit 26 towards Grand Junction. Take US Highway 6/50 heading southeast passing Grand Junction and then continue heading south. At Montrose, US 50 becomes US 550.

Continue heading south until the town of Ridgway, then turn off the highway to state route 62 heading west till then end, where it enters state route 145. Turn left, continue on route 145 heading southeast till you reach Cortez. There, head west of US Highway 160 till it joins US Highway 491, turn left and head south.

Look for Co Rd B on your right, and follow it till you reach the site. Be aware that you are passing through private land. When you have to cross livestock gates, please remember to close them behind you. There isn't a proper visitor center here, but the site is open all year round.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
