The Monastery of Geghard is the finest example of Armenian medieval architecture. It is a World Heritage Site of Armenia. It comprises religious buildings including churches and tombs that were chiseled out of solid rock, forming part of the landscape, which comprises towering cliffs at the entrance to the Azat Valley.
The Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley were inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 24th session of the World Heritage Committee, which met in Cairns, Australia, between 27 November and 2 December, 2000. The site is celebrated for its exceptionally well preserved Armenian monastic architecture and decorative art.
What to See in Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley
The Monastery of Geghard, carved out of solid rock, must be one of the most impressive sights in Armenia. It was named after the lance that pierced Jesus' side, and is said to have once housed it. There are also several intricately carved khachkars at the monastery. The monastery sits in the Azat valley with sheer cliffs looming up behind it.

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
