Vanadzor (Armenian: Վանաձոր), located in Lori Province, is the third largest city in
Armenia. Located in the central northern part of the country, it covers 25 sq km (9.7 sq mi), at an elevation of 1,424 m (4,674 ft).
Due to its picturesque location in the highlands, Vanadzor is often a choice location for the wealthy of Armenia to own summer homes or dachas there. Surprisingly, although it is a resort town, Vanadzor is also a base for chemical plants. These date back to the first chemical factory built there in 1929.
Vanadzor experiences a humid continental climate. August is often the warmest month, when the average high temperature rises to 23.8°C (74.8°F). Winters can be very cold. The average low temperature for January is often -18°C (-0.4°F). May is the wettest month in Vanadzor, receiving 96 mm (3.78 in) of precipitation.
