Armenian Street Ghaut, at intersection with Victoria Street (14 November 2012)
Armenian Street Ghaut
本頭公巷路頭 (Hokkien: Pun1 Thau3 Kong1 Hang33 Lor33 Thau2

; Pinyin: Běn Tóu Gōng Xiàng Lùtóu) is a street within the inner city of
George Town, Penang. It was created at the turn of the 20th century, when land reclamation extended
Armenian Street seaward to reach the newly laid
Weld Quay.
At properties along Armenian Street have already been numbered ascending from Beach Street, the newly created extension was named Armenian Street Ghaut, in keeping with the fashion then of affixing the word "Ghaut" to the original street. The new street replaces the ghaut - stone steps that led down to water's edge - but retain the word in its name. Properties on Armenian Street Ghaut are number from Beach Street towards Weld Quay.
In the early 20th century, Armenian Street Ghaut was a hive of activities related to the harbour. It has warehouses for goods that arrived at the
Swettenham Pier,
Victoria Pier, Church Street Pier and other wharfs along the harbor. Right across Weld Quay is Chew Jetty, the biggest of the clan jetties that once housed harbour coolies of the Chew clan.
