Hutan Lipur Sungai Teroi (GPS: 5.806318, 100.432159) or the Sungai Teroi Recreational Forest, is a protected forest located within the Gunung Jerai Forest Reserve. It is located within the Kuala Muda District, about 11 km from the town of Gurun. Sungai Teroi is covered with hill and upper hill dipterocarp forest at an elevation of between 700 to 800 meters above sea level.

The recreational forest has facilities such as camp site, parking lot, and pondok or pavilions. We brought our lunch and had it there. Before starting our journey, we stopped over at the market and bought nasi kandar. Just as we were unpacking our food, it started to rain very heavily. Luckily there were sheds where we could enjoy our lunch comfortably while waiting for the rain to stop.

Hutan Lipur Sungai Teroi has very strange trees that have rusty barks. I am not sure whether the trunks are diseased or covered with a type of lichen.

There is an orchid garden (taman orkid) but alas, as with so many places in this country, I saw that the garden was in a state of neglect. There isn't much of anything resembling orchids, as far as I could see, only forest trees and ferns taking over the greenhouse.

The forest floor is all covered with moss. Walking on them feels like walking on carpet.

High up in the mountain of the Sungai Teroi Recreational Forest is a swimming pool. I believe it gets its water from the nearby river, the namesake Sungai Teroi. When I got there, I saw that the pool was empty, but not for long, as a bunch of Malay boys have arrived and were making their way to the pool.

Located a short distance from the swimming pool is Sungai Teroi itself. This is a gushing mountain river. It flows swiftly down the slope, with grassy banks on either sides. There is a bridge across this river enabling visitors to cross it without getting their feet wet. Also, considering the current, it is much safer to cross this way.

The river collects in a pool near the edge of the cliff. From there, it gushes down the rocks steeply into the ravine.
