Pendang, KedahPendang, Kedah (14 November, 2015)

Pendang (GPS: 5.99204, 100.47477) is a small town in central Kedah. It is the district capital of Pendang District.

The name Pendang comes from the word pendiat which means a ditch used for capturing elephants. The captured elephant is then washed at a well. This historical well is still standing in Pendang today. It is located beside the police station. Pendang was an important elephant breeding centre during the 19th century, when it was a necessity for Kedah to pay tribute in the form of bunga mas (gilded flower) to the Kingdom of Siam.

Today Pendang is predominantly agricultural, with paddy fields and fruit orchards producing rambutans, durians, jackfruit, mangoes, dokongs, grapefruit and mangosteen.

The Sultanah Hamimah Mosque is the main mosque in Pendang. Other sights include a lake and a mini stadium. On the bank of the Pendang Lake is the Pendang Lake Resort.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
