The Royal Museum (GPS: 3.13182, 101.69907), preserves the Old National Palace of Malaysia. Located on Jalan Istana, it preserves the former official residence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, or king, of Malaysia. The king resided here from 1957 to 2011, when the new National Palace complex was completed.
The Royal Museum opened to the public in February, 2013, to offer the public a glimpse into the residence of the king. The palace building dates back to 1928. It was built by Chinese tycoon Chan Wing for his own residence. The mansion was designed by the Singapore architecture firm of Swan & Maclaren in the Palladian style. Sitting on a 11.35-hectare piece of land, it is the most opulent mansion in Peninsular Malaysia at the time of its completion.
