Gwadar (Urdu/Baloch: گوادر, Arabic: جوادر) is a seaport on the Arabian Sea, on the southwestern part of Pakistan. Located in the province of Balochistan, it serves as the capital of Gwadar District.

Human habitation in the Gwadar area goes back to the Bronze Age. Through its long history, it has been conquered by various powers including Cyrus the Great, Alexander the Great and Seleucus Nicator. It came under Islamic rule when it was captured by the Arab-Muslim army of Muhammad bin Qasim in AD 711. The Portuguese staged an attack on it in 1581, burning the city to the ground. Gwadar came under Omani rule in 1783. Pakistan bought it from Oman in 1958, and integrated it to Balochistan Province.
