Balik Pulau Brown Sugar Pao (GPS: 5.35174, 100.2356; Simplified Chinese: 浮罗黑糖包; Traditional Chinese: 浮羅黑糖包; Penang Hokkien: 浮罗烏糖包; Penang Hokkien Taiji Romanisation: Pu3lor2 Or3thng3pao1) is an itinerant pao seller in Balik Pulau, Penang. The pao is sold from a small van packed with steamer trays. The van arrives at the Balik Pulau Old Market Car Park at 2:30pm, and immediately, a swarm of devotees gather around it.

My wife and I happened to be at the tau hua stall next to it, enjoying our bowls of hot tau hua, when suddenly there was a commotion. We turned around, and saw the van arriving, and all those people gathering around it. At first we didn't know what was happening. Then, when the seller opened the van, we saw the steamers inside, and I immediately remember some postings about this pao. Before we could even decide whether or not to buy, already a long queue has formed. Already the seller saying the brown sugar pao is no longer available to retail customers, as they have all been reserved. So the gathering crowd have to make do with the other types of pao that are available.

As we have our meals covered that day (we were doing a staycation at Lexis Suites Penang), we decided we would not be joining the queue for the pao.
