Bandar Cassia, Batu KawanBandar Cassia, Batu Kawan (3 May 2015)

Bandar Cassia (GPS: 5.25601, 100.43386) is a new township being developed in Batu Kawan, Seberang Perai. It was named after the Cassia, a genus of tree that produces lovely yellow flowers. Bandar Cassia is presently rapidly developing, as it is the closest site on the Penang Mainland to the Second Penang Bridge.

Bandar Cassia is accessed from the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge via Exit 2802. It can also be reached from Bukit Tambun, by taking the new road heading south from the Penang State Stadium.

In 2012, it was reported in AsiaOne News that the Penang State Government engaged Surbana International Consultants, a privatised division of Singapore's Housing Development Board, for building consultancy services in the development of Bandar Cassia. According to the report, the Penang State Government is planning to construct 11,800 apartment units on a 80.9 hectare plot there. This would be the biggest public housing project in Penang State.

At time of writing (May 2014), property prices at Bandar Cassia is a mere shadow of that in Butterworth, not to mention that on Penang Island. A double-storey house over here goes for under RM300,000, though the figure is expected to rise when new developments kick in. Perhaps the most exciting on the pipeline is Aspen Vision City, to be anchored by IKEA Batu Kawan, the first Ikea store in the northern region.

About this website

Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.

While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
