Jakar Dzong is the monastic fortress in the Chamkhar Valley, above the town of
Jakar in
Bhutan. It was built on the site of an earlier temple built by Yongzin Ngagi Wangchuk (1517-1554), the younger brother of the Abbot of Ralung.
The name Jakar Dzong means "fortress of the white bird". According to legend, the choice of site was chosen when the lamas saw a white bird circling overhead before settling on top of a hill. They took that as a good omen, and built the dzong on the site.
