Singye Dzong, Bhutan

Singye Dzong is a sacred valley settlement on the northeastern part of Bhutan. Due to its proximity to the border with China, Singye Dzong is not open to foreign visitors.

Singye Dzong is sacred to the Bhutanese because they believe this was where Guru Rinpoche meditated after defeating the demon king Khikharathoed in Khempajong. Singye Dzong is the most sacred of the eight dzongs, the others being Drakri Dzong, Dulwa Dzong, Gawa Dzong, Namkha Dzong, Pema Dzong Rinche Dzong and Tsemo Dzong.

Singye Dzong is also the site where 19th century treasure hunter Zilnon Namkha Dorji discovered the Tse Drup Chimi Sogthig, a Buddhist scripture said to prolong life.
