Botanic Gardens Tram Service (29 May 2011)
Botanic Garden Tram Service is a service for ferrying passengers between the parking lot and the main entrance of the
Penang Botanic Gardens. Since the facelift given to the gardens, only a limited number of parking space is available close to the main entrance.
Most visitors are now expected to park at the many parking lots located further away. The journey from these parking lots to the main entrance can be quite a distance, some 400 meters or so.
The tram service allows all passengers to enjoy a leisurely ride to the entrance. Along the way, they can view the extended parkland that has been created with the expansion of the garden, including the riverside walkway and rest stops. One also passes the famous Moon Gate.
The tram service costs RM2.00 for a return trip. It is operational on days when visitors are expected to be plentiful. This is especially so during the Penang Floral Festival, which is held at the Botanic Gardens every year.
