Brother James Road, Pulau Tikus (18 February 2013)
Brother James Road
, known today as
Jalan Brother James, is a road in
Pulau Tikus, Penang. It intersects Brown Road to the west, and ends at Scott Avenue to the east. In between it also forms junctions with Jalan Berjaya, Gerbang Berjaya and Lebuhraya Berjaya.
Brother James Road was laid out in the late 1950's, when a piece of land in
Ayer Rajah was acquired by the La Salle Christian Brothers to relocate the
St Xavier's Branch School into its own building. The person instrumental in this endeavor was Brother Director Theodoret Michael who went around canvassing for funds from the Education Department, ex-students, teachers and staff of the school.

Brother T. Michael named the road leading to St Xavier's Branch School after his predecessor and mentor, the late
Brother Marius James Byrne, who was the Provincial in Penang from 1912 until 1946. Since then, Brother James Road has developed into a quiet residential neighbourhood within Pulau Tikus. Brother James is remembered for his role in the growth of the St Xaviers schools.
