Brown Garden, Gelugor, Penang (22 January 2019)
Brown Garden is a neighbourhood in Gelugor. It was named after the original landlord of the Brown Estate,
David Brown, who was the largest landowner on Penang Island. Brown Garden was developed in the early 1960's to house government servants. Much of the neighbourhood is comprise housing for the civil workforce. The neighbourhood is bordered by
Bukit Gelugor to the north, Sungai Gelugor to the east,
Minden Heights to the south and
Bukit Gambier to the west.
There are three main road names at Brown Garden:
Jalan Permai,
Jalan Molek and
Jalan Endah. They are derived from three adjectives in Malay.
Permai means peaceful,
molek means adorable and
endah is the old spelling for
indah meaning beautiful place.
