BSP Waterfront Food Court & Market, Jelutong (2 October 2015)
BSP Waterfront Food Court & Market (GPS: 5.39411, 100.32589) is a major hawker centre in George Town, Penang. It is located on the Jelutong coast between Karpal Singh Drive and the Jelutong Landfill. The complex, which is developed by IJM Land (under Jelutong Development Sdn Bhd) and managed by the Penang Island City Council, includes a market known as PP Citymart, which opened to business on 2 October, 2015.
I paid a visit to BSP Waterfront Food Court & Market on its opening day. I saw that the food court is truly huge, with hawker stalls spread across two large areas. Outside the food court is the seaside promenade. I am a bit perturbed to see that the Jelutong Landfill is so close by. I wonder whether the fumes and stench of rotting refuse will reach the eatery, and concern over the possibility of airborne particles. We shall find out.

PP Citymart occupies one portion of the complex. It has a single entrance and a single exit, so you enter at one end, make your way through the wet, then exit at the cash register. Considering most of the items selling here are new stock, the price may momentarily be higher than elsewhere, until other markets replenish their stock as well.

Considering I visited on the first day, I find that parking is grossly inadequate. The only available parking area is along the approach roads. To cater for the high number of vehicles, the empty ground is also made available for parking. But this area is untarred and uneven. I feel the authorities should have increased the number of parking bays, if they want enough people to come and support this complex. As it is, even if all the proper parking lots are filled, the complex will still look rather empty. I consider it improper planning to expect people to park in on the uneven, untarred ground where the stones may contribute to the wear and tear of vehicle tyres.

About this website
Dear visitor, thank you so much for reading this page. My name is Timothy Tye and my hobby is to find out about places, write about them and share the information with you on this website. I have been writing this site since 5 January 2003. Originally (from 2003 until 2009, the site was called AsiaExplorers. I changed the name to Penang Travel Tips in 2009, even though I describe more than just Penang but everywhere I go (I often need to tell people that "Penang Travel Tips" is not just information about Penang, but information written in Penang), especially places in Malaysia and Singapore, and in all the years since 2003, I have described over 20,000 places.
While I try my best to provide you information as accurate as I can get it to be, I do apologize for any errors and for outdated information which I am unaware. Nevertheless, I hope that what I have described here will be useful to you.
