Bukit Tok Alang (1 August 2015)
Bukit Tok Alang (GPS: 5.44309, 100.47733) is an excavated terrain in Seberang Perai Utara. It is located in the neighbourhood of Jarak Atas in
Tasek Gelugor, but is often known as
Kampung Guar Petai, which in fact refers to the turn off. The area is sandwiched between the paddy fields of Padang Menora and the palm oil estate of Bukit Berangan.
Well known for its landscape of colour ponds and scabrous hillocks, Bukit Tok Alang is often called the Imitation Jiuzhaigou 九寨沟. The landscape is in fact the result of excavation for the brick making. To reach Bukit Tok Alang, one enters through the laterite country path at Kampung Guar Petai, passing the brick factory, and continuing on the laterite path until arriving at the area. Ever since news of its beauty reached the general public, a growing stream of visitors have made a trip to the place, and some have even gone there for wedding photography.

The Bukit Tok Alang Estate is actually private property. Concerned that it may be held responsible for any mishap that takes place within its property, the owner has posted a guard to forbid people from entering Bukit Tok Alang. When I visited the place, I met the guard who told us that if people were allowed to explore the place unmonitored, there could be incidents of them falling off the steep slopes of the hillock, inofficially called Bukit Kata, or drown in the ponds, or be bitten by snakes or scorpions. As it is impossible to prevent such untoward incidents, the property owner has made the decision to forbid further visitation of Bukit Tok Alang.
Asked what the owner of Bukit Tok Alang intends to do with the land, the guard said he doesn't know, speculating that it would probably make way for residential housing.
