The East Gopura is the gate located on the far side of Angkor Wat. However, it is built of a much smaller scale than the West Gopura. In fact most visitors to Angkor never venture anywhere near it.

The East Gopura of Angkor Wat can be visited if one has time to kill. It is located at the end of a tarred road surrounded by tall trees. Occassionally you may come across one or two visitors and the park keepers, but at most times, the places is desolate. From the East Gopura, you can get a good view of the eastern façade of Angkor Wat.

Water plants such as water lilies cover this section of the moat. Occassionally, you can see the lawnkeepers removing the waterlilies that threaten to choke the moat by cutting off oxygen to the lakebed.
