Cangzhou is a prefecture-level city in
Hebei Province in northern China. The prefecture covers an area of 13,419 sq km (5,181 sq mi). It has a population of 6.8 million people while the city itself has a population of 490,000 (2011 estimate). Cangzhou is about 180 km from Beijing and 90 km from Tianjin.
Cangzhou is renowned for its martial arts of wushu and Chinese acrobatics. In the city is a famous landmark, the 40-ton Iron Lion of Cangzhou, reputedly the largest cast-iron sculpture in the world. It was cast in AD 953 during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period. The lion sculpture is a symbol of the city, and is also a brand of a popular local beer.

There is a sizable community of Hui people in Cangzhou. They are Muslims, and as a result, there are seven mosques in the prefecture one of which, the West Mosque, has the finest collection of Islamic manuscripts and artefacts in China.
